Music Appreciation Group

9.30am, Wednesday 22nd January; Wednesday 27th February

Balwyn Baptist Church, 517 Whitehorse Road, Balwyn (Melway 46 F8)

I thank Geoff Ellis for suggesting the subject for the meeting – Remembering the Great Singers of the 1950s – and I thank Wikipedia for providing the background information and discography for each singer!

I’ve chosen singers whose career either started in the 1950s, or peaked in the 1950s, e.g., Perry Como, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Al Martino, Nat “King” Cole, Guy Mitchell, Frankie Laine and Johnnie Ray. And some great ladies – Doris Day, Peggy Lee, Kay Starr, Patti Page, Rosemary Clooney, and Jo Stafford among others. There may also be a few surprises on the day.

I hope you will join me for what, hopefully, will be a morning of happy memories for you.

The following meeting will be held on Wednesday February 27th same time, same place. The proposed subject will be “Pops Go the Classics” – popular songs that were inspired by classical music. More time will be devoted to the “classics” rather than the “pops”.
