“Woodies” (Woodworking & Home Maintenance) Group
Usually referred to as the “Woodies”, the Woodworking & Home Maintenance Group, which was established in 1989, meets on the second Thursday of each month, either at 9.30am at the Balwyn Baptist Church, 517 Whitehorse Road Balwyn for a “home” meeting, or for an “away” meeting – a visit to a place of interest, e.g., furniture factory, car manufacturer, boat builder, timber yard, etc.
At ‘home” meetings, members exchange ideas and discuss problems related to home maintenance,
Since the Group was established, members have visited 102 different organisations, enjoyed 58 talks and demonstrations by members, heard 56 “Man behind the Chisel” presentations, and held 134 meetings in members’ homes.
“Away” meetings include Gippsland Aeronautics in Morwell, VicRoads ‘Traffic Management Centre in Kew, the Liberator Restoration Project in Werribee, the RAAF Museum at Point Cook, the TAA Museum in Airport West, the Bombardier factory in Dandenong, and the Diamond Valley Railway.
